17 Days, 1 Backpack: How to pack for Europe with a carryon!

When I first started planning my upcoming trip to Europe it was pure excitement. However, that quickly switched to nerves when I realized I couldn’t use my normal, GIGANTIC, purple suitcase and check a bag on all these little planes and trains, and wheel these little baby suitcase wheels all through the cobblestone streets of Italy…I mean I could, but it wouldn’t be good for anyone.

So, I decided I would pack a carryon bag (for my 17 day trip) and that everything would work out. This decision came after a day of wine-tasting, aka liquid courage, and a lot of encouragement from my friends who have apparently done this successfully before.

I already dreadhatedespiseprocrastinate packing – this was not about to make it any better.

My number 1 tip? BUY THIS BACKPACK. It’s from Amazon (PRIME!), it fits every airlines (that I’ve found) carry-on size requirements (EVEN RYANAIR!!), and it unzips all the way around like a real suit-case would making it super convenient.

Here’s what I fit inside:

  • 6 shirts
  • 3 pairs of jeans
  • 2 pairs of flowy-pants
  • 2 pairs of sandals
  • 1 pair of flip-flops
  • 2 maxi dresses
  • 1 romper
  • 1 sundress
  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 17 pairs of underwear
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • 2 bathing suits
  • A toiletries cube with all of my makeup, toothbrush, hairbrush, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
  • Jewelry
  • 1 belt
  • 1 MacBook Air

Seriously, unbelievable.

Buy the backpack, frolic through Europe, and you’ll probably still manage to overpack like me.

BUY THE BACKPACK. You won’t regret it.
